Summary

This course aims to introduce you to the practical ins and outs of the South African film and television industry, as well as offer insight into what happens on set and more importantly, how to behave professionally on set and accelerate your career development. You’ll find out who’s who in the zoo, what the various departments do and how they work collaboratively. Having a better understanding of the industry will help you become an asset on any set, and help you establish yourself in the department of your choosing.

Subject Matter Expert

Pascale Neuschäfer | Author

Pascale is a filmmaker who has been active in the industry for almost two decades. She started her career as an actor on stage and screen, then moved into documentary filmmaker – where she worked as director, editor and videographer, before moving into narrative cinematography. Pascale completed an MA in Cinematography at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she trained under Witold Stock, BSC. She currently works as cinematographer and camera operator and is also the co-founder of a production company, Just Films, which has a strong focus on social justice films. Her career path has been both one of formal education and training, as well as working her way up the ranks in the camera department, both in South Africa and in the UK. She’s taught and tutored various subjects, such as movement and physical theatre, to editing and acting classes at Stellenbosch University, AFDA, New Africa Theatre Association and Northlink College.

You will be required to be familiar with using a computer as you may need to be able to read and download documents in Adobe PDF Reader, view Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, and read and create documents in Microsoft Word.
